I am a seasoned and award winning design leader and innovator with over 20 years of experience building impactful digital products, apps, and websites across the US, Germany, and the UK. Currently serving as a Senior Staff UX Manager (L7) at Google, I bring a proven track record of leading complex, global initiatives and fostering groundbreaking user experiences deployed to billions of users worldwide.
My career is defined by a consistent pursuit of product innovation and a deep understanding of design systems thinking. I excel at defining and scaling design strategies that not only meet user needs but also establish new industry benchmarks.
//Strategic design leadership & management
For over a decade, I have led and managed interdisciplinary and global UX teams of writers, researchers, UX program managers, interaction designers, and visual designers, including full-time employees, contractors, and vendor agencies.
My experience spans significant roles at Google, including UX Manager and Design Lead on the Material Design System, UX Manager for Android Messages, and Creative Lead for Google Brand Studio
I am adept at shaping product direction and driving design excellence within large, complex organizations. Currently I oversee the font and icon programs for all of Google, leading the Google Fonts team and acting as EMEA Design Site Lead for Google Design.
//Groundbreaking Product Innovation
I have consistently explored and championed new conceptual spaces throughout my career.
As a co-founder of Google Fonts, I was responsible for the UX and design of its initial launch in 2010. This project has since grown to serve the web typography of over half of all websites.
My work on Google Play Instant Apps (originally Android Instant Apps) broke new ground in user interaction, deploying on over a billion active Android devices and inspiring similar concepts like Apple App Clips.
I led the design and development of the World Wonders Project, whose success subsequently led to the founding of Google Arts & Culture and I was responsible for the User Experience of the launch of the Google Store, which received a Webby Award in the Consumer Electronics category in 2016.
//Design Systems & Scalability
My design thinking has always been centered around systems and how to scale them. I introduced Design Tokens to Material Design and Google, developing the initial concepts, architecture, and syntax, significantly enhancing the Material Design System's adoption.
I have contributed to many aspects of Google’s design system and founded and led the design of "Google Marketing Web Standards", a design system and framework for marketing websites.
//Specialized Expertise in Typography & Fonts
As Design Manager for Google Fonts since 2020, I am responsible for all of Google’s font development projects (including Google Sans, Roboto, Noto), Google’s icons (Material Symbols used by all Google products), and the open-source font catalog.
My work in this domain is widely recognized, with the Google Fonts website winning a Webby Award for Best User Interface 2024 and the Google Sans Flex typeface receiving a Red Dot Design Award for Typeface Design 2024. Other Fonts from our font development program have won various awards (including TDC, D@AD, Granshan, European Design Award and the internal Google UX Award)
